Study Says Prospective Dads May Want to Stop or Slow Down Drinking

Guys, if you and your spouse are trying to get pregnant, you may want to think twice about throwing back a few drinks. A study from the European Journal of Preventative Cardiology says drinking prior to conception for either parent can increase the risk of congenital heart defects, but it is more significant in men, paticulary for binge drinking (five or more drinks). The study suggests particular risks for over-indulgers and drinking three months prior to conception, but the study's author, Jiabi Qin, says to be safe, men should not consume alcohol for at least six months prior and women should stop one year before, and during pregnancy.
